Ignition Cable: Description and Operation
PURPOSE/OPERATIONThe ignition coil takes a low Voltage, 12 Volts, and converts it to a much higher Voltage, 20,000 to 40,000 Volts, through magnetic induction. The coil wire connects the ignition coil to the distributor cap, allowing high voltage to flow from the coil to the distributor cap and on to the spark plugs.
