Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

The F4A33 transaxle is an automatic four speed with lock up (damper clutch) torque converter and internal differential.

The transaxle control module receives inputs from the following:

1. Pulse generator "A".
2. Pulse generator "B".
3. Oil temperature sensor.
4. Throttle position sensor.
5. Accelerator switch.
6. Transaxle range switch.
7. Kickdown servo switch.

The transaxle control module calculates if a shift change is needed and controls the following outputs:

1. Pressure control solenoid valve.
2. Shift control solenoid valve.
3. Torque converter damper clutch.
