Front Cross-Member: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Jack up the vehicle and install jack stands.
2. Remove the centermember mounting bolts.
3. Remove the stabilizer bar and steering gear box assembly.
4. Do not drop or damage the dynamic damper, because it is fastened to the center member.
CAUTION: Do not drop or damage the dynamic damper, because it is fastened to the centermember.
NOTE: Inspect bushings at this time replace if necessary.
INSPECTION
1. Check the crossmember for cracks or deformation.
2. Check the bushings for cracks or deterioration.
3. Check the center member for cracks or deformation.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the front end of the center member so that the bushings are in the positions shown.
2. Finish installing the crossmember in the reverse order of removal.
BUSHING REPLACEMENT
1. Use the Special Tool to remove and press in bushings A and B.
2. Press in bushing A and B so that the inner sleeve extends out by the standard value.
Bushing Standard Values:
Bushing A: 9.2-10.2 mm (0.36-0.40 inch).
Bushing B: 8.5-9.5 mm (0.33-0.35 inch).
CAUTION: When pressing in, apply a solution of soap and water to the outside of the bushings, and then press them in one after the other. If there is a pause during the pressing operation, frictional resistance will prevent installation.
