1997 SONATA 3.0L NEW FRONT CASE
DESCRIPTION:
Beginning with March 11, 1997 production, a new front case has been installed on the Sonata 3.0L engine. The new front case requires two new capscrews (see Parts table and Figure 1). In addition, the new front case has a notch in the timing belt tensioner mounting boss and the width of the tensioner mounting boss has been changed to 15.5 mm. This notch provides clearance for a boss on the engine block.
PARTS INFORMATION:
CAUTION:
i) Do not use the 55 mm capscrews on the new style front case. The capscrews will not have enough thread engagement.
ii) Do not use the 60 mm capscrews on the old style front case. The capscrews will bottom out in the cylinder block.
iii) Old and new cases have the same part number. Identification is by visual only.
Note:
The new style front case will interchange between old style and new style blocks. However, the old style front case will ONLY fit on old style blocks.
