Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Remove the console upper cover plate and than remove the console upper cover.
2. Remove the floor console.
3. Disconnect the PJT shift lever connector.
4. Disconnect the key lock switch connector.
5. Remove the cotter pin, clevis pin and washer.
6. Remove the shift lever mounting bolts.
7. Remove the shift lever assembly.
8. Remove the A/T shift lever connector pins from the connector with small edged driver.
9. Remove the knob cover and knob mounting screw.
10. Remove the selector knob.
11. Remove the indicator.
12. Remove the O/D switch as shown in illustration.
Inspection
1. Check the control cable for proper operation and damage.
2. Check the bushing for wear or damage.
3. Check the spring for damage or deterioration.
4. Check the overdrive switch for continuity.
5. Check continuity between indicator light terminal 7 and 8
LIMIT: Continuity
6. Check continuity between parking position switch terminal 3 and 4 in free load.
LIMIT: Continuity
7. Check continuity between parking position switch terminal 3 and 4 while pressing the switch.
LIMIT: Noncontinuity
8. Check the movement of shift control solenoid while apply the battery voltage or not.
LIMIT:
Apply -> ON
DO NOT Apply -> OFF
9. Check continuity between parking position switch terminal 3 and 4 while pressing the switch.
LIMIT: Noncontinuity
10. Check the movement of shift control solenoid while apply the battery voltage or not.
LIMIT:
Apply -> ON
DO NOT Apply -> OFF
11. Check the power/normal switch for continuity.
NOTE: Connector color: WHITE
12. Check the seat heated switch.
NOTE: Connector color
Installation
1. Apply a coating of the specified grease to the interior of the adjust bushing.
Specified grease: Chassis grease SAE J310, NLGI No. 0
2. Move the shift lever and the transaxle range switch to the "N" position, and install the transaxle control cable.
3. When connecting the control cable to the transaxle mounting bracket, install the clip until it contacts the control cable, in the position shown in the illustration.
4. When connecting the control cable to the shift lever mounting bracket, install the clip until it contacts the control cable.
5. Install the cable mounting bolts.
6. Install the O/D switch to the selector knob.
7. Install the indicator.
8. Install the selector knob.
9. Insert the A/T shift lever connector pins correctly.
10. Connect the A/T shift lever connector and key lock switch connector.
11. Apply the specified grease at the places shown in the figure.
Specified grease: Multipurpose grease SAE J310, NLGI No. 2
12. Place the shift lever in the "N" position, and then turn the cam rod adjusting so that the clearance between the sleeve and the lever assembly end is within the standard value.
Standard value: (A) 15.2 - 15.9 mm (0.598 - 0.625 inch)
13. Install the selector knob.
14. Install the console box.
