DESCRIPTION:

This TSB describes the proper routing for the serpentine drive belt on the 1999 Sonata V6. It also describes the method of determining wear on the belt and when it should be replaced.

BELT TENSIONER MARKS:

^ Reference Mark = This reference mark is stationary. When a belt is installed the reference mark should always be between the minimum and maximum.

^ Tensioner Full Load Position = The tensioner arm will rotate to this position while installing a drive belt.

^ Minimum = The tensioner arm will rotate to this position when a new belt is installed.

^ Maximum = If the tensioner arm has rotated to this position or beyond, it indicates that the belt is stretched or worn. Replace the belt.

^ Tensioner Unloaded Position = The tensioner arm will rotate to this position when no drive belt is installed.

The photo shows the serpentine drive belt tensioner and the marks that allow the technician to determine belt wear.

The serpentine drive belt scheduled maintenance intervals are as follows:

^ Inspect belt every 7,500 miles
