Group: ENGINE ELECTRICALNumber: 99-36-013
Date: SEPTEMBER, 1999
Model: 1999 SONATA
Subject
1999 SONATA VERY SLIGHT HEADLAMP DIMMING
DESCRIPTION:
The 1999 Sonata may exhibit a very slight dimming of the headlamps for a few seconds when:
- The A/C compressor clutch is activated.
- The Rear Defroster is turned on.
- The HVAC fan is turned on High.
- Any other large electrical load is encountered.
In order to minimize engine RPM fluctuation, an electronic control system is utilized to gradually increase the electrical load on the generator.
This load control results in the brief (less than 5 seconds), very slight dimming of the headlamps.
This condition does not adversely affect visibility or headlamp illumination in any manner. Some customers may notice this characteristic and may ask if this constitutes normal operation. This condition is NORMAL and does not reflect any malfunction of the electrical system. Do not attempt to repair this condition.
