1-2 SHIFT SHOCK OR SHIFT HESITATION

DESCRIPTION:

Some 1999 Sonata vehicles with automatic transaxies may exhibit a shift shock or shift hesitation during the 1-2 shift at small throttle angles (15-30% TPS). If a customer experiences this condition, test drive the vehicle to confirm the operation.

Attach the Scan Tool to the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) and check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Please be aware that Transaxle DTCs for the 1999 Sonata are available only in the following menus on the Scan Tool:

2.5L V6 - "4-Speed Trans" menu
2.4L I4 - "Engine" menu

^ If DTCs are found, repair the condition and test drive the vehicle.

^ If no DTCs are found and the vehicle was produced prior to the effective production date listed below, replace the Transaxle Control Module (TCM).

INTERCHANGEABILITY:
There is no change in part number. However, all current PDC inventory is the modified TCM.
