Subject
CHASSIS ROLL TESTING PROCEDURE FOR 1999 SONATA EQUIPPED WITH TCS
DESCRIPTION:
This TSB applies to 1999 Sonatas equipped with Traction Control System (TCS). It describes a procedure to prevent erroneous Diagnostic Trouble Codes from being set in the ECM during dynamometer testing (during an emissions test for example) or while driving the front wheels while the vehicle is raised on a hoist.
PROCEDURE:
1. With the engine running in "Park", turn the Traction Control switch off. (The Traction Control switch is located on the floor console).
2. Locate the left front wheel speed sensor connector as shown in the photograph.
3. Next with the engine off, disconnect the left front wheel speed sensor connector.
4. Perform inspection/ maintenance (I/M) work as planned (on a dynamometer or on a hoist).
5. During Step 3, the vehicle will run normally, but the "TCS OFF" and "ABS" malfunction indicator light (MIL) will illuminate.
6. Upon completion of I/M testing, turn the ignition key off.
NOTE:
The ignition key must be turned off to extinguish the "TCS OFF" and "ABS" warning indicator lights.
7. Reconnect the left front wheel speed sensor connector. The Traction Control switch will reset to "ON" with the ignition key off performed in step 6.
8. Road test the vehicle at speeds above 20 mph until the "TCS OFF" and "ABS" warning indicator lights are turned off.
NOTE 1:
If any "TCS" and "ABS" related history codes are stored, they will self erase after 128 ignition key on/off cycles.
NOTE 2:
There is no need to erase the historical codes with the scan tool (see Note 1)
