Automatic Update Procedure

1. Remove the current system software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and insert the reprogramming software card, with the new LC ECM program, into the Hi-Scan Pro's top slot.

2. Plug the Data Link Connector (DLC) cable from the Hi-Scan Pro into the data link connector (16-pin connector) to the left of the steering wheel under the instrument panel.

3. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

4. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON and press ENTER.

5. Select option "10. LC READINESS TEST" and press ENTER.

6. Select option "01. LC READINESS TEST [AUTO MODE]" and press ENTER. This option automatically detects the ECM type and downloads the correct program.

7. Enter "1229" as the password for the automatic update mode and press ENTER.

8. The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication, check the ECM ID, and reprogram the ECM automatically.

NOTES:
^ The Hi-Scan Pro detects the current ECM ID, assigns the new ECM ID and displays them for about 1 second.

^ To be prepared in case a reprogramming error occurs, record the "NEW ECM ID" displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen during reprogramming.

^ It will be used during the Manual Update Procedure if the program does not download correctly.

^ If the Hi-Scan Pro does not download the program, use the Manual Update Procedure following this section.

^ Check the ECM IDs displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct ECM software is being downloaded. Refer to the "ECM SPECIFICATION TABLE" in this bulletin for the ECM ID listing.

WARNING:
Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time. The ECM will be rendered inoperative if the program does not download completely.

9. When the COMPLETED message is displayed, turn the Hi-Scan Pro OFF and the process is complete.

NOTE:
When the reprogramming is completed successfully, turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 seconds and then start the engine.
