REAR SEAT BACK LATCH RELEASE BUTTON REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

DESCRIPTION:





Rear seat back latch release buttons may be replaced by referring to the service procedure in this bulletin.

VEHICLE INFORMATION:

^ Model: 2001 Model Year ELANTRA 5 door model only

^ Production date range: March 22, 2001 through June 12, 2001

^ VIN range: KMHDN55D21U020994 through KMHDN55D81U030283

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

NOTES:
^ This procedure was prepared based on the right rear seat back assembly.





^ Replace both rear seat back latch release buttons at the same time.

1. Open the front door and then move the front seat to the foremost position.





2. Open the rear door. Fold the rear seat back forward by pressing the seat back latch release button.








3. Locate the zipper under the seat back mounting bracket. Unzip the zipper up to the striker cover.





4. Unscrew the striker cover mounting screws (2 each), then remove the cover.





5. Fully open the zipper.





6. Using a flathead screwdriver, disconnect the rod clip from the rod while pressing the button as shown.





7. Remove the button and rod from the seat back.

8. Install the new latch release button into the seat and then connect the rod to the latch. Make sure the rod clip is fully closed.

CAUTION:
After replacing the rear seat back latch release button with a new part, be sure to check the button for proper operation.

9. Reinstall all removed components in the reverse order of removal. Be sure to tuck the zipper end back under the seat back mounting bracket.

10. Perform the above steps for the left rear seat back assembly.
