Service Procedure
NOTES:^ Use caution not to impact the area where the satellite sensors are installed to prevent inadvertent deployment of the side air bags prior to service.
^ The battery negative cable must be disconnected prior to removing the center pillar trim.
^ Verify that the vehicle is one of the affected vehicles by identifying the vehicle production date and VIN.
^ This replacement procedure must be performed for both left and right satellite sensors.
1. Turn the radio on and record the customer's pre-set radio stations on a copy of the table shown.
2. Open the hood and disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Move the front seats to the full front position on the seat tracks.
4. Remove the front and rear door scuff trim from the left and right sides of the vehicle.
FOR BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES (Steps 5 through 14):
5. Carefully lift up the center pillar lower trim and remove the trim from the center pillar inner panel.
NOTE:
Be careful not to break the trim mounting fasteners and ribs while removing the trim.
6. Remove the B pillar inner cover by removing the 10 mm bolt.
7. Unplug the rear door harness connector.

8. Remove the satellite sensor mounting bolts (2EA, 10 mm) from the center pillar inner panel.
9. Remove the satellite sensor from the center pillar inner panel through the hole located above the satellite sensor.
10. Remove the orange locking tab. Disconnect the satellite sensor connector.

11. Remove the satellite sensor from the mounting bracket.
NOTE:
Use caution not to damage the mounting bracket while removing the sensor.
12. Install the new sensor to the bracket. Torque to 16.0 lb.ft (21.0 Nm).
13. Install the new satellite sensor to the center pillar inner panel. Torque the two 10 mm nuts to 42 in.lb (4.5 Nm).
14. Reinstall all removed components in reverse order of removal.
NOTE:
Be sure that the satellite sensor connector is securely engaged and that the orange locking tab is reinstalled.
15. After replacing both satellite sensors, start the engine and make certain the air bag warning light goes off and remains off after approximately 6 seconds.
16. Check the operation of the rear door power windows.
17. Place a small punch mark over the first digit of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which is engraved on the engine compartment wall behind the engine.
