MODEL
2001 ELANTRA
SUBJECT
"A" PILLAR CONNECTOR
Terminals within connectors MD-01 and MD-02 which link the front door wiring harness to the main harness at the "A" pillar on some 2001 Elantra vehicles may become corroded due to moisture/salt entry at the grommet between the door and "A" pillar. Corroded terminals can result in inoperative power mirrors, power windows, or power locks.
A permanent field fix will be issued shortly to correct this condition, however, in the interim, the following procedure should be performed on all 2001 Elantras in dealer inventory prior to retail (during the Pre-Delivery Service) as a preventative measure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Open the driver's door and remove the door scuff trim, driver's foot rest and left kick panel as shown.
2. Remove the driver's side support panel.
3. Remove the lower crash pad panel.
4. Disconnect connectors MD-01 and MD-02 and apply di-electric grease on all pins of both connectors.
5. Re-install connectors MD-01 and MD-02.
6. Re-install all components in the reverse of disassembly.
7. Apply a bead of silicone sealant around the grommet seal between the door and the "A" pillar as shown to prevent moisture from entering the connector around the "A" pillar.
8. Perform the above procedure on connectors MD-03 and MD-04 on the passenger side of the vehicle.
