2001 MY XG300 TCM REPROGRAMMING
- 3~4 SHIFT SHUDDER -
(FIELD FIX)

This bulletin is issued to inform you of a Transaxle Control Module (TCM) reprogramming procedure for certain 2001 MY XG300 vehicles (as specified below) that may experience a shift shudder when the Automatic Transaxle changes from third to fourth gear (3~4).

If you encounter a 2001 MY XG300 (as specified below) that has this symptom, perform your usual diagnostic routine, and if the condition still remains, we recommend that you follow the Service Procedure provided in this TSB.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

2001 MY XG300 vehicles, manufactured from Job # 1 up to and including August 31, 2001.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reprogramming Cautions

1. Do not start the engine during the procedure.

2. Do not switch the ignition key OFF during the procedure.

3. Do not disconnect any wiring connectors during the procedure.

4. Do not switch the Hi-Scan Pro OFF during the procedure.

5. After reprogramming is complete, disconnect the Hi-Scan Pro from the vehicle, wait at least 20 seconds with the ignition key in the OFF position, then start the engine and let it run for one minute.

6. Remove the reprogramming software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and re-install the diagnostic software card. Connect the Data Link Connector cable to the Data Link Connector and check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Erase if any appear.





Hi-Scan Pro Setup

1. Remove the Data Link Connector (DLC) cable from your Hi-Scan Pro.

2. Remove both the software card and the troubleshooting card from your Hi-Scan Pro.

3. Attach the reprogramming adapter to the same terminal that the DLC cable was connected (see Step # 1) and tighten the two thumb screws.

4. Insert the reprogramming software card into the upper slot of your Hi-Scan Pro.
(This is the same reprogramming software card from previous Campaigns/Recalls, but with the new reprogramming software update sent with this, 02-36-002, and 02-36-003.)

5. Connect the cigarette lighter power adapter to the power connector port of your Hi-Scan Pro.

6. Connect the reprogramming adapter power wire to the power connector port in the body of the cigarette lighter power adapter.

7. Connect the RED reprogramming 10-pin connector to the reprogramming adapter wire.

8. Insert the cigarette lighter power adapter into the cigarette lighter of the vehicle.

9. Connect the RED reprogramming 10-pin connector to the matching connector located directly beside the Data Link Connector (DLC) in the vehicle.

Automatic Update Procedure

1. Once the Hi-Scan Pro has been set up and connected to the vehicle as described under Hi-Scan Pro Setup, turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.

3. Press "ENTER" at the first screen.





4. Select option "17. XG 3.0 AT 3-4 SHIFT SHUDDER" and press "ENTER."





5. Select option "01. XG 3.0 AT 3-4 SHIFT SHUDDER [AUTO]" and press "ENTER."





6. Enter the password 1229 and press "ENTER."





7. From this point the Hi-Scan Pro is checking and automatically reprogramming the PCM.

Note:
An error message may appear after the downloading of the Boot Program. If this happens it is not necessary to do anything at this time. The Hi-Scan Pro will automatically retry the process with a different program. If the Hi-Scan Pro does not successfully download, go to the Manual Update Procedure,

8. When the "COMPLETED" message appears, the reprogramming was successful To complete the new reprogramming and be sure it is retained in the PCM's memory, turn the Hi-Scan Pro OFF and disconnect, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 20 seconds, then start the engine and let it run for one minute.

Manual Update Procedure

In the event menu option "01. XC 3.0 AT 3-4 SHIFT SHUDDER [AUTO]" fails to download the new PCM program, option "02. XC 3.0 AT 3-4 SHIFT SHUDDER [ERROR]" must be used.

1. Set-up the Hi-Scan Pro as described in Hi-Scan Pro Setup, then turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.

3. Press "ENTER" at the first screen.





4. Select option "17. XC 3.0 AT 3-4 SHIFT SHUDDER" and press "ENTER."





5. Select option "02. XC 3.0 AT 3-4 SHIFT SHUDDER [ERROR]" and press "ENTER."





6. Select option "02. XC 3.0 WITH IMMO: 39110-39177" and press "ENTER".





7. Enter the password "9177" and press "ENTER".

Note:
Once the password has been entered and accepted, the rest of the process is exactly the same as the automatic update procedure.





8. From this point the Hi-Scan Pro is checking and automatically reprogramming the PCM.

Note:
If an error message appears after the downloading of the Boot Program it is not necessary to do anything. The Hi-Scan Pro will automatically retry the process with an alternate program.

9. When the "COMPLETED" message appears the reprogramming was successful. To complete the new reprogramming and be sure it is retained in the PCM's memory turn the Hi-Scan Pro OFF and disconnect turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 20 seconds then start the engine and let it idle for one minute.

ERROR MESSAGES

1. INVALID PASSWORD: Please enter the password again.
2. REPROGRAMMING ERROR PLEASE WAIT FOR RETRY: An error occurred during reprogramming. The Hi-Scan Pro will retry reprogramming automatically.
3. THIS ECU IS DIFFERENT TYPE: This procedure does not apply to this vehicle.
4. ALREADY REPROGRAMMED: The reprogramming has already been performed on this ECM.
5. REPROGRAMMING ERROR PLEASE CHECK THE SYSTEM : An error occurred during the reprogramming. You must use the MANUAL MODE PROCEDURE.
