Radio - Poor AM Reception With Window Tint
Group: ELECTRICALNumber: 01-90-009
Date: JULY, 2001
Model: 2001 XG300, 2001 SANTA FE
Subject
2001 XG300 AND 2001 SANTA FE POOR AM RECEPTION WITH WINDOW TINT
DESCRIPTION:
The use of conductive window tint film is not recommended on the XG300 or the Santa Fe vehicles because of the antenna grids on the glass. Conductive window tints are usually metallic colored, such as bronze or gold colored tints.
When conductive window tint is applied to the window containing the in-glass antenna, it can short circuit the antenna leads. This is most noticeable on AM reception; it causes static on otherwise strong AM stations, and the radio will tend to "pop" more than normal when electrical loads are turned on and off (such as pressing and releasing the brake pedal).
Refer to TSB 01-90-005 for information regarding XG300 antenna amplifier connections.
If a vehicle with conductive window tint film is brought in for repair, normal warranty coverage for radio reception issues is void.
