Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Testing and Inspection
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) SOLENOID VALVE
The EGR solenoid valve is a duty control type solenoid valve, which controls EGR valve operation with negative pressure from the throttle body A port.

EGR VALVE CHECKING
HARNESS INSPECTION PROCEDURES
Refer to "P0489, P0490" DTC inspection procedures.
INSPECTION
CHECKING CONDITION
Engine coolant temperature : 80 - 95 °C (176 - 205 °F)
1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle body EGR vacuum fitting and connect a hand vacuum pump to the fitting.
2. Start the engine and check to see that, after increasing the engine speed, vacuum raises proportionately to engine speed.
NOTE: If there is a problem with the change in vacuum, it is possible that the throttle body port may be restricted and require cleaning.
