Battery - Positive Terminal Cover Modification

24F BATTERY REPLACEMENT - POSITIVE TERMINAL COVER MODIFICATION

DESCRIPTION:





The batteries positive terminal cover may not fit properly on some replacement BCI group size 24F batteries with raised vent caps. This TSB provides instructions on how to modify the factory terminal cover to be compatible with standard 24F batteries.

Example shown with Hyundai replacement battery 00275-16000.

PROCEDURE:





1. Disconnect the battery negative (-) cable.





2. Disconnect the battery positive (+) cable by first opening the covers top panel.





3. Using a flat blade screwdriver release the cable stay as shown.





4. Cable stay released.





5. Remove and discard the wire-tie holding the positive battery cables to the cable stay.





6. Remove the terminal from the battery post and slide the cover forward and off the positive terminal as shown.

7. Using either a bench grinder or flush-cut side cutting pliers, remove the material (lower lock tab) shown below the line.





Lower lock tab completely removed.





8. Re-attach the modified cover to the positive cable terminal as shown. Ensure that each of the three locks are properly engaged.





9. Re-attach the cable stay and secure it by adding a 6 wire-tie and cutting it to length.





10. Install the replacement battery by first attaching the positive (+) cable and then the negative (-) cable.





11. The terminal cover should now fit properly between the positive battery post and the raised vent cap.

NOTE:
Only one of the lock tabs will now be functional. One lock tab will provide sufficient top cover retention.
