Cruise Control: Description and Operation

Circuit Description

The cruise control system uses mechanical and electrical devices to maintain vehicle speed at a driver selected setting. The cruise control module receives signals from the cruise remote control switch, the stop lamp switch, transaxle range switch (A/T), cruise clutch pedal position switch (M/T) and the vehicle speed sensor. The cruise control module provides signals to the actuator in the cruise control module and the Powertrain control module (A/T).

With cruise engaged, the cruise control module sends a signal to the Powertrain control module that prevents the transaxle from continuously downshifting and upshifting to maintain the set vehicle speed. The cruise control module incorporates a self diagnostic feature.
