Body - Creak/Squeak From Top of Windshield

Group: BODY

Number: 07-80-003

Date: DECEMBER 2007

Model:
2006 - 2007 SONATA

Subject:
CREAK NOISE FROM WINDSHIELD HEADER AREA

DESCRIPTION:

If a Sonata vehicle has a creak or squeak noise from the area near the top of the windshield, it may be caused by the molding at the top of the windshield rubbing on the sheet metal.

^ The source of the noise is contact between the glass molding and the sheet metal.

PARTS REQUIRED:

Krytox GPL 105 oil in a 1/2 ounce syringe Available from:

Miller-Stephenson
1-800-992-2424
www.miller-stephenson.com

NOTE:
Krytox GPL 105 is a DuPont product that is available from other suppliers. If purchasing from a different supplier, make sure the packaging will enable the oil to be injected under the windshield molding.

PROCEDURE:

1. Determine the noise is from the area near the top of the windshield. This noise is heard when the top of the windshield is pushed from the inside, or if only one front tire is rolled up a ramp.

2. Carefully insert the tip of the syringe under the glass molding top lip at one A pillar. While slowly sliding the syringe towards the center of the car, dispense the Krytox GPL 105 under the glass molding. Repeat for the other side. Apply the oil carefully so the 1/2 ounce is evenly applied across the complete top edge of the windshield.

3. Immediately retest the vehicle for the noise. It will still be present initially, but will stop as the oil is worked under the molding during the testing. When the noise is no longer present, the repair is complete.
