Lighting - Instrument Lights Flicker With Headlamps ON

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATION LIGHT

DESCRIPTION:

In some 2007-2008 MY Elantra vehicles, while the engine is running and the head lamp switch is turned on, the instrument cluster illumination light may suddenly flicker one time.

This bulletin provides the procedure for replacement of the Body Control Module (BCM) to repair this condition.

VEHICLES AFFECTED:

2007-2008 Elantra vehicles from start of production to February 18, 2008.





PARTS INFORMATION:

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Record the customer's radio stations and disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Carefully remove the center facia panel assembly.

NOTE:
Be careful not to damage or scratch the panel.

3. Disconnect the Clock, Tell Tale Lamp and Hazard Light connectors.





4. Remove the Crash Pad Lower Tray Assembly by removing 2 screws. Disconnect the Ashtray Light connector.








5. Remove the Heater Control Assembly by removing 4 screws. Disconnect the Heater Control connectors.





6. Remove the BCM by unfastening the 2 mounting nuts and disconnecting the wiring connectors.





7. Install the new BCM.

8. Install all components in reverse order of removal.

9. Reconnect the negative battery cable and reset the customer's radio stations and clock.

10. Verify the instrument cluster and all components that have been disconnected function correctly.
