OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM - SERVICE RESET PROCEDURE

DESCRIPTION:

The current Sonata, Entourage, Elantra and Veracruz data does not provide the Occupant Classification System reset procedure using the GDS tool. This bulletin provides the procedure to reset the Occupant Classification System's electronic control unit (referred to as WCS (Weight Classification System) ECU on the GDS display screen) using the GDS tool. This reset procedure should be performed after replacing the front passenger seat cover, seat cushion pad, or seat cushion assembly.

NOTE:
Refer to the Owner's Manual section "Occupant Classification System" or the Service Data, under the Restraints Systems, for details regarding the WCS ECU and diagnosis.

WCS ECU RESET PROCEDURE:

1. Check that the front passenger seat and the back pocket are empty.

2. Confirm the right front seat belt is not buckled.

3. Adjust the seat position according to the table above.

4. Connect the GDS VCI module to the vehicle's DLC connector and open the GDS program.

5. Turn on vehicle ignition and make sure the green power LED is illuminated on the VCI; if it is not illuminated press on the power button of the VCI. Within a few seconds, the GDS screen should indicate "VCI:USB On" in bright blue to the left of the VIN button on the screen.

6. Press the VIN button at the top of the screen to launch the GDS VIN search screen.

7. Press the "VIN Auto Detect" button to automatically read the vehicle's VIN (or you will need to manually enter vehicle, year, and engine if it does not automatically read this information) then select the "AIRBAG" system.

8. Select "Weight Classification".

9. Press the "OK" button at the bottom of the screen.

10. On the following screen, press "DTC ANALYSIS". If there are diagnostic code(s) stored in the main SRS Control Module, the code(s) must be repaired first before starting the WCS ECU reset procedure.

11. Press the "Vehicle S/W Management" tab on the GDS screen.

12. Press "WCS Reset".

13. The screen above appears after the WCS Reset button is pressed.

14. After a few seconds, the screen above will appear. Press the "OK" button.

15. Make sure the front passenger seat is empty and press "OK" to begin the WCS reset procedure.

16. Wait a few seconds for the GDS to reset the WCS ECU.

17. Once the reset is complete, press "OK" to exit the WCS Reset menu.

18. Confirm proper operation of WCS.
