CAMPAIGN 099: WCS CONNECTOR VINYL COVER INSTALLATIONVEHICLES AFFECTED:
2007-2009 Elantra Vehicles produced from July 14, 2006 through November 1, 2008.
PARTS INFORMATION:
NOTE:
Before conducting the repair procedure, verify the vehicle falls within the production date range as noted above and has an open recall 099.
1. The IGNITION SWITCH MUST BE OFF and the KEY MUST BE REMOVED from the ignition switch before beginning this procedure.
2. For automatic transaxles, apply the parking brake and place the shift lever in the Neutral ("N") position.
3. Using a flat blade screwdriver, remove the plastic trim collar to expose the attaching screw (A).
4. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw. Lift and remove the shift lever knob.
For manual transaxles, apply the parking brake and rotate the shift lever knob (B) counterclockwise to remove.
5. With the parking brake in the applied position, remove the parking brake lever cover (C).
6. Open the center console armrest (D).
7. Remove the console tray mat (E) and, using a 10mm ratchet, remove the center console mounting nuts (F).
8. Using a small pick, remove the center floor console front mounting screw cover (G).
9. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the center console front mounting screw (H). Repeat procedure for the other side.
10. Lift from the rear and remove the center console assembly.
11. Locate the Weight Classification System wiring connector (J), which is positioned to the rear of the Airbag Control Unit.
NOTE:
This connector is identified as AA11 in the airbag system section of the ETM for the affected vehicles.
12. Remove the backing strip (K) from the adhesive on the vinyl cover.
13. Attach the vinyl cover onto the Weight Classification System connector as shown in the photo. Use your finger to evenly press down on the vinyl cover.
14. Install all the removed components in reverse order of removal.
