DESCRIPTION:
Some Elantra, & Elantra Touring vehicles may exhibit a noise originating from the front struts when passing over bumps or dips at speeds of 10 - 16 mph.
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
Model: ELANTRA (HD), ELANTRA TOURING (FD)
Applicable vehicle production date range: JOB #1 to August 19, 2009.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
NOTE:
This procedure is illustrated on an Elantra Touring (FD) vehicle. For further information on Elantra (HD) or Elantra Touring (FD) models, refer to the appropriate shop manual.
1. Remove both front wheel and tire assemblies.
NOTE: Tightening torque]
^ 9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m
^ 88.3 ~ 107.8 N.m
^ 65.1 ~ 79.5 lb.ft
2. Remove the stabilizer link mount nut (A).
NOTE: Tightening torque
^ 10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m
^ 98.1 ~ 117.6 N.m
^ 72.4 ~ 86.7 lb.ft
3. Remove the brake hose bracket bolt (B1) and the speed sensor bracket (B2).
NOTE: Tightening torque
^ 1.2 ~ 1.5 kgf.m
^ 11.8 ~ 14.7 N.m
^ 8.7 ~ 10.8 lb.ft
4. Remove the strut and spring assembly mount (C).
NOTE: Tightening torque
^ 14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m
^ 137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m
^ 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb.ft
5. Remove the strut cap (D) by unfastening the strut assembly mount nuts (E).
NOTE: Tightening torque
^ 4.5 ~ 6.0 kgf.m
^ 44.2 ~ 58.8 N.m
^ 32.6 ~ 43.3 lb.ft
6. Remove the strut and spring assembly (F) from the knuckle.
NOTE:
In photo to above, the strut and spring assembly have been removed from the knuckle.
7. Hold the strut and spring assembly with the Strut Spring Compressor SST (09546-26000) and compress the coil spring.
8. Remove the self locking nut (G).
NOTE: Tightening torque
^ 5.0 ~ 7.0 kgf.m
^ 49.1 ~ 68.6 N.m
^ 36.2 ~ 50.6 lb.ft
9. Remove the insulator assembly (H).
10. Remove the strut bearing (I).
11. Remove the spring upper seat and pad (J).
12. Remove the dust cover (K).
13. Remove the bumper stopper (L) and discard it.
14. Insert the shock absorber rod into the new bumper stopper (M).
15. Install all the removed components in reverse order of removal.
16. Repeat procedures 1 - 15 on the other side of the vehicle.
