CYLINDER HEAD COVER GASKET INSTALLATION

Description:
This bulletin provides important service information to properly seal the cylinder head cover when performing any service that requires the removal of the cylinder head cover(s).

Applicable Vehicles:

^ 2007-2012MY (CM) Santa Fe 3.3L/3.5L
^ 2007-2012MY (EN) Veracruz
^ 2006-2011MY (TG) Azera
^ 2006-2010MY (NF) Sonata 3.3L
^ 2006-2008MY (EP) Entourage

Service Procedure:

1. Refer to applicable Shop Manual to perform the required service work.





2. Prior to any reassembly work, thoroughly clean the top of the cylinder head and the timing chain cover at the mating surface.

^ Use a gasket scraper to remove any old RTV liquid gasket residue where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head at the deck.





3. Apply Hyundai Gray RTV (refer to TSB 10-EM-002 for information regarding P/N 00232-19039) or equivalent sealant to the two upper spots
where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head.

^ Apply a sufficient bead of RTV sealant at a width of approximately 2.5mm (0.1in.)

^ Within 5 minutes after applying RTV sealant, install the cylinder head cover with new cylinder head cover gasket.





4. Install the cylinder head cover (A) with a new cylinder head cover gasket.

^ Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the other cylinder bank (if both cylinder head covers are removed).

NOTICE
After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes
before filling with oil and/or starting engine.

5. Refer to applicable Shop Manual to perform the remaining part of the required service work.
