Audio System - Tick Noise When Playing CD's

AUDIO SOFTWARE UPDATE

IMPORTANT:
READ AUDIO UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO STARTING THE PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT:
ONLY ONE (1) APPROPRIATE CD WILL BE USED DURING THE PROCEDURE

NOTE:
Elantra Touring replacement radios from the PDC do not need to have the Audio Software Update (09-BE-027) program installed.

DESCRIPTION:

Some Elantra Touring vehicles may exhibit a "Tick" noise when playing a CD.

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
Model: ELANTRA TOURING (FD)

Applicable vehicle production date range: October, 2008 to May 29, 2009





PARTS REQUIRED

NOTE:
One (1) set of reprogramming discs will be sent to each dealer to be used for updating the radio software. Additional disc sets can be ordered through the PDC.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Check the VIN and confirm the vehicle is within the affected VIN range.





2. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.





3. Write down all presets. Copy all presets from FM1, FM2, AM, XM1, XM2, XM3 onto a piece of paper.





4. Turn radio Off by pressing the power button.





5. Check software version by pressing and holding 1 & 6 simultaneously until display shows either:

a. V1.09.USA

b. V1.10.USA

IMPORTANT:
IDENTIFY SOFTWARE VERSION ON REPAIR ORDER





6. Insert appropriate CD with software version.

IMPORTANT:
IF INCORRECT CD IS INSERTED WHILE UPDATING THE SOFTWARE DISPLAY WILL BE PIXILATED.





7. Play CD file for 4 seconds.

NOTE:
MUST BE IN CD/AUX MODE

8. Turn radio Off by pressing power button.





9. Press and hold 1 & 4 for a total of six (6) seconds.

IMPORTANT:
DISPLAY WILL NOT CHANGE

NOTE:
If display does change go back to step 7





10. Press and release 1 a total of four(4) times.

NOTE:
If display does not change as shown in the picture go back to step 7





11. Press and release 2.

NOTE:
If display does not change as shown in the picture go back to step 7





12. Press and release 4.

NOTE:
If display does not change as shown in the picture go back to step 7





NOTE:
On the upper left, the display will show the following cycles:

c. Erase from 1%-100%

d. Write from 1%-100%

e. Verify from 1%-100%





13. After it cycles through the display it will turn Off and reboot to the display shown in the picture.

NOTE:
IF DISPLAY IS PIXILATED GO TO STEP 16





14. Verify software has been loaded by pressing 1 & 6 simultaneously until display is as shown in the picture.

NOTE:
Software must be V1.11.USA





15. Set all presets noted on a piece of paper in step 3.





16. If screen is pixilated eject current CD and insert the other CD.

NOTE:
Repeat steps 7 to 15 but without using the display
