RADIO REPROGRAMMING - CAMPAIGN T52

IMPORTANT:
DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY AND WHENEVER AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR.

IMPORTANT:
WHEN A VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ACCESS HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S "WARRANTY VEHICLE INFORMATION" SCREEN VIA DCS ON-LINE TO IDENTIFY OPEN CAMPAIGNS.

DESCRIPTION:

In 2009 Sonata vehicles, some radio AM stations may experience excessive reception signal interference.

This bulletin describes the procedure to reprogram the radio software to improve the reception interference.

VEHICLES AFFECTED:

2009 Sonata vehicles produced from start of production to March 10, 2008.

PARTS INFORMATION:

Two (2) reprogramming discs will be sent to each dealer to be used for updating the radio software.

^ One CD disc will be used to reprogram the non-navigation radio units and

^ One DVD disc will be used for reprogramming the navigation-equipped radio units.

The radio reprogramming software is also available for download from the HMA service website.

TO CREATE A CD OR DVD DISC:

Downloading The Reprogramming Software:

1. Log on to Hyundai Service website.





2. On the Blue menu bar, select "Diagnostic Tools" and choose "Software Updates".

3. Click the "Radio Reflash" book mark for instructions on downloading the software and creating a reprogramming CD or DVD disc.

REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Before starting the reprogramming procedure make sure the vehicle's battery is at full charge.

NOTE:
See page of this bulletin for reprogramming of Navigation-Equipped Radio Units.

Non-Navigation-Equipped Radio Units:

1. Turn key to the Accessory (ACC) position.

NOTE:
Do not start the vehicle or turn the ignition switch off during the reprogramming.





2. Turn the radio on.





3. Insert the reprogramming disc marked "RADIO" into the radio unit.





4. Wait for a song to play for approximately 3 seconds.





5. Push the power button to turn the radio off.





6. While pressing down on the Preset 1 button push the Preset 4 button and simultaneously hold the two buttons for five seconds and release.





7. "Quick" push on the Preset 1 button four times.





This screen should appear.





NOTE:
If the error screen appears, push the power button to turn off the unit and eject the disc. Begin Step 2 again.





8. Within 10 seconds, push the Preset 2 button one time.





9. Push the Preset 5 button. The automatic reprogramming will begin.





10. The radio will automatically power off when the reprogramming is complete (approximately 30 seconds).





11. To verify the radio has been reprogrammed successfully, simultaneously push and hold the Preset 1 and Preset 4 buttons for five seconds and release.





12. "Quick" push on the Preset 1 button four times.





13. Verify the EEPROM version on the screen contains "4I" at the end. If the EEPROM version does not contain "4I", repeat steps 1-10.

14. Wait for the display to turn off. Eject the CD and verify AM, FM and XM radio stations are functioning normally.

Reprogramming Procedure for Navigation Equipped Radio Units:

1. Start the vehicle and keep the engine running throughout the reprogramming process.

NOTE:
Do not turn the ignition switch off during the reprogramming.





2. Turn the Radio/Navigation unit ON and press the "Agree" button on the screen.





3. Push the SETUP button on the control panel.





4. Press "System Info" on the screen.





5. Press the MAP UPGRADE button on the screen.








6. Insert update disc marked "Navigation" into the Radio/Navigation unit.





7. Press the "YES" button to start the update process.





8. The Radio/Navigation system will automatically power off when the update is complete (approximately 5 minutes).





9. To verify the Radio/Navigation unit has been reprogrammed successfully, turn the Radio/Navigation unit ON and wait for the Hyundai start-up screen to clear. Press the "Agree" button on the screen.





10. Push the SETUP button on the control panel.





11. Press the "System Info" on the screen.





12. Press and hold the "Earth" image for approximately 6-8 seconds. Be sure not to touch areas close to the satellite icons.





13. When this screen appears press the "Version Information" button.





14. Verify the Micom version on the screen reads "101.2008.03.07.004". If the Micom version does not match, repeat steps 1-8.

15. Verify AM, FM and XM radio stations are functioning normally.
