Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Description and Operation
Description
Driver Airbag (DAB) is installed in steering wheel and electrically connected to SRSCM via clockspring. It protects the driver from danger by deploying a bag when frontal crash occurs. The SRSCM determines deployment of Driver Airbag (DAB) by using the Front Impact Sensor (FIS) signal.
The driver airbag is a two stage device. If the crash algorithm determines that only the first stage is to be activated, the second stage will be automatically disposed of after a programmable time has elapsed since the first stage deployment. The ACU shall be capable to deploy all firing loops for at least 150ms after IGN has been disconnected.
