Affected Vehicles: Production date range:
^ November 11, 2010 - November 30, 2010
PARTS INFORMATION:
Inspection and repair of trunk release handle operation.
INSPECTION:
1. Start with the trunk closed and latched.
2. Pull trunk release handle up through the full range of motion, and let spring force return the handle to the neutral position. (Once at the top of the pull, let the release handle snap back down on its own spring force.)
3. Verify the trunk has unlatched.
NOTE:
It is possible that the trunk lid will not raise when released using the inside handle even though the trunk is unlatched. If the trunk does not raise under it's own spring force, manually check if the trunk is still latched or unlatched.
4. Close trunk fully.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 a total of ten (10) times.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove LH FR door step trim using trim removal tool, being careful not to scratch trim/body, or create a stress mark in the plastic.
2. Carefully remove two (2) floor harness clips from the body and lift body side weather strip away from the LH kick panel.
3. Carefully remove hood release handle and kick panel and foot rest.
4. Unbolt left hand front seat and lean seat back as shown in picture.
5. Carefully lift carpet beginning at the LH FR door to the trunk/fuel filler door release, and carefully lift the carpet over the release handles.
6. Remove the 10 mm bolt that secures the release handle to the body and gently pull toward the front of the vehicle to expose cable ends.
7. Properly secure cable to release handle ensuring that cable sheath and cable end are in the proper position.
NOTE:
Pictures show two possible incorrect scenarios.
NOTE:
Picture below shows the correct installation.
8. Reassemble vehicle in reverse order.
9. Verify trunk release operation after reassembly is completed.
