DESCRIPTION:
This bulletin provides an ECM update to address a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) system-related DTC P0605 and P21 OS or P2110 occurring together:
- P0605 : Internal Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error, and
- P2105 : Throttle Actuator Control System-Force Engine Shutdown, or
- P2110 : Throttle Actuator Control System-Force Limited Power
^ DTC P0605 occuring alone without P2105 or P2110 may be caused by an ECM hardware issue.
^ These combinations of DTCs indicate an engine torque calculation issue, resulting in Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system operation in limp home limited power or shutdown.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
Model: 2011 SONATA (YF)
Vehicle production date range: December 14, 2009 to February 2, 2010
NOTE:
To confirm if an applicable vehicle is affected, you can check the version of the vehicle's control unit ROM ID with reference to the ROM ID Information Table below before attempting to update the control unit software.
ROM ID INFORMATION TABLE:
NOTE:
^ Smart Key Push Button system has an immobilizer function.
^ Regular Key does not have an immobilizer function.
GDS SYSTEM AND ECM UPDATE PRECAUTIONS:
CAUTION:
Please assure the following items before performing the ECM update:
^ Make sure the vehicle's battery has reasonable charge. If the vehicle has been in storage, run the engine to ensure an adequate battery charge state for reliable update results. The ECM Update procedure contains a check to ensure that battery voltage is above 12 volts to allow the procedure to occur.
^ The USB cable must be used between the GDS and VCI for ECM update. The procedure will not work in VCI wireless mode. Short USB cable is preferable.
^ Make sure the GDS laptop battery indicator icon in the lower right tray has 50% or more charge (half bar on the battery symbol). Charge the laptop battery with the AC adaptor cable if the charge is less than 50%.
^ Turn off all lamps (do not leave head lamp switch in auto mode) and all accessories (including heater, NC, blower, radio, seat warmer, defroster, etc.) to prevent battery discharge during the update.
^ Perform update with the ignition switch in the ON position.
^ Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or scan tool during the update.
^ Do not start the engine during update.
^ Do not turn off the ignition switch during update.
INTERNET UPDATE OF GDS SOFTWARE VERSION:
1. Verify that GDS Software Version is 1.715 or higher. Make sure your GDS is getting internet updates for the latest version if your GDS was not connected to the internet. You can determine the version from the GDS desktop by touching the desktop icon in the lower left of the screen, which will make the desktop screen appear. The GDS software version appears at the top of the screen as shown here:
2. If the GDS software is currently 1.700 - 1.715 you must perform an internet update. Make sure there is an internet connection to the GDS. Restart your GDS laptop and launch the GDS program again. Wait for the following SmartUpdate Program to launch within approximately a minute and follow the instructions including updating your VCI unit to firmware 1.72 or higher when requested to do so.
NOTE:
If your current GDS software version is lower than 1.700 you will need to perform disk update. Contact GIT for further assistance.
3. If the SmartUpdate Program does not launch to automatically perform update and your GDS software version is currently 1.700 - 1.715 then try to launch the Internet Update manually as shown below. Be sure there is an internet connection:
GDS AUTO MODE ECM UPDATE PROCEDURE:
1. Choose VIN or ECU Upgrade on the initial screen
2. Enter the vehicle information by pressing the VIN Auto Detect button, entering the vehicle's VIN or selecting the vehicle model, model year, engine/fuel type and ENGINE as the system and then select OK.
3. Select ECU Upgrade on the initial screen after entering the vehicle information.
4. Select Auto Mode then ENGINE in the left ECU Upgrade column.
5. Read Preparation and select OK.
6. The GDS will read the vehicle's ROM ID.
NOTE:
If the following error message appears during ROM ID read, it means the update was already completed so this TSB does not apply for that vehicle.
7. After the Current ROM ID is displayed, select the Update Event:" 182.YFA 2.4 GDI P0605, P2105 DTC LOGIC."
8. After selecting the Upgrade button, read Information then select OK.
