SUBJECT ENGINE COMPARTMENT RATTLE DURING ACCELERATION - FUEL TUBE HOLDER

DESCRIPTION:

Some Sonata 2.4L vehicles may exhibit a rattle sound from the driver's side of the engine compartment, which can be heard from inside the cabin. This can be observed during certain engine operating speed ranges (1600-2000 RPM) or during light acceleration.

The rattle may be caused by the plastic fuel tube holder vibrating slightly against the engine compartment bulkhead.

Follow the service procedure outlined in this bulletin to correct the condition by replacing the fuel tube holder with a newly-revised part.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

IMPORTANT:
Take extra precaution to prevent body damage to the vehicle by protecting the fender with a padded cover before leaning over it.

1. Open the hood and locate the fuel tube holder, which is attached to the engine compartment bulkhead.

NOTE:
Confirm that the hook on the clip has become loose and contacts the metal engine compartment bulkhead. There may be evidence of minor body paint rub at the contact point.

2. Mark the clamped location of the fuel tubes directly above the holder with chalk, a grease pen, or a marker.

NOTE:
Placing a position mark on the fuel tubes before removing the old part is recommended for easy placement of the new fuel tube holder. Once the new holder is installed, it will be very difficult to remove and relocate.

3. Remove the old fuel tube holder from the rail using a trim removal tool and replace with a new fuel tube holder.

IMPORTANT:
Push the new fuel tube holder firmly over the mounting stud to ensure complete seating of the part.

4. Verify repair.
