IMPORTANT:
DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY.

IMPORTANT:
WHEN A VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ACCESS HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S "WARRANTY VEHICLE INFORMATION" SCREEN VIA WEBDCS TO IDENTIFY OPEN CAMPAIGNS.

DESCRIPTION:

This bulletin provides a procedure to update the TCM software for 2011 Sonata 2.4L vehicles with automatic transaxies.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
Model: 2011 Sonata 2.4L (YF) vehicles with automatic transaxles

Production date range: December 10, 2009 through August 31, 2010

TCM ROM ID INFORMATION TABLE:

Verify the TCM ROM ID before attempting to update the vehicles software.

Refer to the ROM ID Information Table below:





INTERNET UPDATE

Confirm your GDS has the most recent version. If not, connect the GDS to an internet port, open the GDS home page and select "Update". See the instructions on hmaservice.com, if necessary.

GDS SYSTEM AND TCM UPDATE PRECAUTIONS:

WARNING:
Make sure that the battery symbol indicator at the bottom right tray of the GDS laptop shows at least 50%; if not, charge the GDS or attach a battery charger.





^ Connect the USB cable (A) between the GDS and the VCI.

NOTE:
The USB cable is necessary because wireless communication is not available for the update.

^ Connect the 16-pin DLC connector from the VCI into the DLC located under the driver's side dash.

^ Turn off all lights (Do not leave the headlight switch in auto mode) and all accessories (including heater/air conditioner/blower, radio, heated seats, rear defroster, etc.) to make certain the battery will not be discharged during reprogramming.

^ Perform update with the ignition key in the ON position.

^ Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or the GDS during reprogramming.

^ Do not start the engine or turn the ignition switch OFF during reprogramming.

NOTE:
Call the GIT Helpdesk for GDS technical support issues.

1-1. AUTO MODE TCM UPDATE PROCEDURE

1. From the GDS Home page, select ECU Upgrade. If necessary, select the VIN manually.

2. Select AT as the system. Select OK.

3. Select Auto Mode and click Next.

4. From the System tab, select AT and select OK. The GDS will read the ROM ID.

5. Update event 211 YFA TCM Upgrade is displayed. Confirm the ROM is applicable as shown under "ROM ID INFORMATION. Select Upgrade.





6. If the screen indicates "Voltage is OK", select OK. If not, select CANCEL and charge the vehicle battery.

7. The progress bar will indicate when reprogramming reaches 100%.

Wait until the next screen indicates reprogramming is complete.

8. The GDS will confirm that TCM reprogramming is successfully finished. Turn the ignition switch off for at least 10 seconds then turn back ON and click OK. If not successful, go to, 1.2. MANUAL TCM UPDATE PROCEDURE".

9. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes and erase any DTC present.

10. Reset the TCM adaptive learning values using the GDS "Option Treatment menu on the main screen.

11. Start the engine to confirm proper operation.

1-2. MANUAL MODE TCM UPDATE PROCEDURE:

^ The manual update should be performed only when the automatic update fails.

^ If automatic update falls, disconnect the ECM connectors for 10 minutes and then reconnect them before performing the manual update.

1. From the GDS home screen, select ECU Upgrade. If necessary, select the VIN manually.

2. Select Manual Mode and click Next.

3. From the System tab, select AT and click Next.

4. Update Event 211 YFA TCM Upgrade will display. Select Next.

5. The ROM ID will display. Select Upgrade.





Refer to the table below and select the appropriate PCM part number with reference to the ROM ID and click OK. If in doubt, remove the PCM and read the part number.





6. If the results indicate "Voltage is OK", select OK. If not, select CANCEL and charge the vehicle battery.

7. The progress bar will indicate when reprogramming reaches 100%.

Wait until the next screen indicates programming is complete.

8. The GDS will confirm that TCU reprogramming is successfully finished. Turn the ignition key OFF for 10 seconds and click OK.

9. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and erase any DTC(s) present.

10. Reset the TCM adaptive learning values using the GDS "Option Treatment" menu.

11. Start the engine to confirm proper operation.
