Service Procedure
NOTE:Review the DVD Mobile Entertainment System Owner's Manual that was supplied with each new DVD Mobile Entertainment System installation. This will lead to quick isolation of incidents, as well as knowledge of when the system is operating as designed.
DVD Mobile Entertainment System Function Test
NOTE:
Perform the entire test. If any component does not function as shown, refer to the DVD Mobile Entertainment System Diagnostic Flow Charts.
1. Turn vehicle ignition switch to the "ACC" position. Confirm the DVD unit turns on (eject button should light up).
2. Slide the release button towards the rear of the vehicle and fold the Over Head Monitor (OHM) down to the viewing position. Verify the power indicator is lit (see Figure 3).
3. Observe if DVD is 1 or 2 sided. Insert DVD into slot. Unit should load disc automatically.
4. DVD Logo should appear on monitor. Upper left hand corner of monitor should display "READING" then "DVD" then "PLAY".
5. Depending on the DVD disc content, the unit should automatically show a menu or start to play the disc.
6. Retrieve the headphone and remote control (see Figure 4). Turn the headphone power switch to ON.
7. With the headphone volume (see Figure 4) at minimum, place the headphone on head.
8. Raise headphone volume to comfortable listening level.
9. Press MENU button on remote control. Using the UP (Arrow), DOWN (Arrow), LEFT (Arrow) and RIGHT (Arrow) buttons, highlight "SELECT SCENE" and press ENTER.
10. Using the arrow buttons, highlight Chapter 3 and press ENTER. DVD should play starting at that scene.
11. Press MENU button. Using the arrow buttons highlight "SELECT SCENE and press ENTER.
12. Using the arrow buttons, highlight Chapter 4 and press ENTER. DVD should play starting at that scene.
13. Press NEXT CHAPTER button. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "NEXT". Unit should play the next chapter.
14. Press PREVIOUS CHAPTER button once to go back to beginning of current chapter. Press PREVIOUS CHAPTER button twice quickly to go to previous chapter. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PREVIOUS". Unit should play the previous chapter.
15. Press FAST FORWARD button. With each button press unit will scroll through 2X, 4X 8X, and 20X speeds. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display each speed respectively.
16. Press PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal play. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PLAY".
17. Press FAST REVERSE button. With each button press unit will scroll through 2X, 4X, 8X. and 20X speeds. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display each speed respectively.
18. Press PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal play. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PLAY".
19. Press PLAY/PAUSE button again. DVD should pause. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PAUSE".
20. Press PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal play. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PLAY".
21. Press SLOW FORWARD button. With each button press unit will scroll through 1/7, 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 speeds. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "SLOWF" and each speed respectively.
22. Press SLOW REVERSE button. With each button press unit will scroll through 1/7, 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 speeds. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "SLOWR" and each speed respectively.
23. Press PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal play. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PLAY".
24. Press MUTE button (MUTE). Audio should mute. Monitor should display mute icon.
25. Press MUTE button (MUTE) again. Audio should resume.
26. Press REPEAT button (RPT). With each button press the unit will scroll through "RPT [OFF]", RPT [CHAPTER)" and "RPT [TITLE]". Monitor should display each respective condition.
27. Press TITLE button (TITLE). Depending on the DVD disc content, the upper left-hand corner of monitor may display a hand icon.
28. Press STOP button. DVD logo should appear on monitor.
29. Press PLAY/PAUSE button. DVD should start from beginning.
30. Press DISPLAY button (DISP). Monitor should display the numbers of lime elapsed and time remaining. Confirm time elapsed is counting up and time remaining is counting down.
31. Press DISPLAY button (DISP) again. Depending on the DVD disc content, the monitor should display a chart of the time elapsed, time remaining, chapter #, title #, title total #, audio status and subtitle status. Press DISPLAY button (DISP) again to cancel display function.
32. If a video game is available to test the DVD system, proceed to step "a" below. If not, proceed to the next numbered step below.
a. Connect 3 RCA connectors from the video game to their color-coded terminals on the DVD unit, then start the video game.
b. Press the remote control AUXILIARY button (AUX).
^ The DVD should stop playing.
^ The monitor should display the video game.
^ The DVD system should play the video game audio.
c. Press the AUXILIARY button (AUX) again. DVD should resume play.
d. Turn the video game off for now.
33. Press MENU button (MENU). Using the arrow buttons, highlight "SELECT SCENE" and press ENTER.
34. Using arrow buttons highlight the last chapter and press ENTER. Unit should play the last chapter
35. Press the FAST FORWARD button. Press the FAST FORWARD button 4 times to select 20X speed. Let unit fast forward to the end of the disc. DVD should start from the beginning. Depending on the DVD disc content, the unit should automatically show a menu or start to play the disc.
36. Press STOP button. DVD Logo should appear on monitor.
37. Turn the ignition key OFF and confirm unit light goes out.
38. Press EJECT button on the DVD unit. DVD should eject and lights should go out.
39. Turn ignition key ON.
40. Insert audio CD into slot. Unit should load disc automatically.
41. Monitor should display "READING" then "CD-DA" then start playing the CD. Monitor should display time elapsed, time remaining, track # and track total #. Confirm that time elapsed is counting up and time remaining is counting down.
42. Check display function:
a. Press DISPLAY button (DISP). Monitor should clear text.
b. Press DISP again - Monitor should display time elapsed and time remaining.
c. Press DISP again - Monitor should display time elapsed, time remaining, track # and track total #.
d. Press DISP again - Monitor should clear text.
43. Press NEXT TRACK button. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display NEXT Unit should play the next track.
44. Press FAST FORWARD button. With each button press unit will scroll through 2X, 4X, and 8X speeds. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display each speed respectively.
45. Press PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal play.
46. Press PREVIOUS TRACK button. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display "PREV". Unit should play the previous track.
47. Press FAST REVERSE button. With each button press unit will scroll through 2X, 4X, and 8X speeds. Upper left-hand corner of monitor should display each speed respectively.
48. Press PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal play.
49. Press MUTE button (MUTE). Audio should mute. Monitor should display mute icon.
50. Press MUTE button (MUTE) again. Audio should resume.
51. Press REPEAT button (RPT). With each button press the unit will scroll through "REPEAT [OFF]", "REPEAT [ONE]" and "REPEAT [ALL]".
52. If a video game was hooked up earlier to test the DVD system, proceed to step "a" below. If not, proceed to the next numbered step below.
a. Turn video game on.
b. Press the remote control AUXILIARY button (AUX).
^ The CD in the DVD unit should stop.
^ The monitor should display the video game.
^ The DVD system should play the video game audio.
c. Press the AUXILIARY button (AUX) again. The CD in the DVD unit should resume play.
d. Turn the video game off.
53. Press DISPLAY button (DISP) 2 times. Press NEXT TRACK button repeatedly to select the last track.
54. Press FAST FORWARD button repeatedly to select 8X speed. When unit reaches the end of the track it should automatically go back to Track 1 and start playing.
55. Remove the headphone and turn its power switch to OFF.
56. While the CD is playing, turn the radio ON.
57. Press the radio AUX switch to ON (see Figure 5). "AUX" will be displayed on the radio and the audio signal from the DVD unit will play through the vehicle speakers. Adjust the volume to a comfortable level.
NOTE:
This function always switches the audio signal from the DVD unit into the radio, no matter what is being played through the DVD unit (DVD disc, audio CD, or video game).
58. Press the radio AUX switch to OFF. Radio will turn OFF. Press the AM/FM button on the radio to resume normal radio operation.
59. Press EJECT button on DVD unit. CD should eject. Reinsert CD.
60. Turn ignition key to "OFF" and confirm unit light goes out.
61. Press EJECT button on DVD unit. CD should eject and lights should go out.
62. If connected, disconnect the video game's 3 RCA connectors from DVD unit.
DVD Mobile Entertainment System Diagnostic Flow Charts
Use the following diagnostic flow charts to diagnose the DVD Mobile Entertainment System.

Removal and Replacement of the DVD unit / Checking the DVD unit to Interface Box connector
NOTE:
Before disconnecting DVD unit from the vehicle, remove any discs from inside the DVD unit.
1. While pushing the spring-loaded release button on the side of the DVD unit, gently slide the DVD unit towards the rear of the vehicle (see Figure 6a). Lift slightly, then lay the DVD unit on its back without straining the DVD unit cable (see Figure 6b).
2. Check the fit of the DVD unit cable (see Figure 7). Note that the 8 pin DIN plug is keyed for proper alignment. Confirm plug alignment before insertion. The plug should fit into the DVD unit with a gentle push. Do not force the plug.
3. Set the DVD unit onto the floor bracket so that the bottom tabs (see Figure 6b) fall into the slots of the bracket. Carefully slide the unit toward the front of the vehicle until you hear it click into place. Do not pinch the cable when installing the unit.
WARNING:
DVD Mobile Entertainment System DVD unit must be securely attached into the bottom bracket to prevent sudden movement and possible injury in event of a crash. During installation, confirm DVD Mobile Entertainment System DVD unit is secure into the bottom bracket by pushing forward and backward.
DVD Mobile Entertainment System Fuse Check Procedure
1. The DVD Mobile Entertainment System is powered by the Audio circuit fuses: # 4 (BAT) & # 10 (ACC). Locate them in the fuse block by number. Replace as needed.
Interface Box Power Cable / Harness Connections Check Procedure
1. Remove the DVD unit (see Removal and Replacement of the DVD unit /Checking the DVD unit to Interface Box connector).
2. Remove the left rear trim panel (refer to the BT section of the appropriate Service Manual).
3. Remove the Interface Box and check the connectors (see Figure 8).
NOTE:
Refer to the Audio chapter in the EL section of the appropriate Service Manual for diagrams on the Interface Box and radio AUX switch circuits and wiring. Please note that in the Service Manual:
^ The Interface Box is called "Aux Box."
^ The radio AUX switch is called "Rear TV Switch."
3. Re-assembly is the reverse of removal.
Over Head Monitor (OHM) Harness Connection Check Procedure with Dome Light Lens Removal & Replacement.
CAUTION:
Dome light lens will be damaged if steps 1 and 5 are not followed.
1. Remove the OHM dome light lenses (see Figure 9).
2. Remove the screws securing the OHM to the vehicle (see Figure 10).
3. Check the connectors on the back of the OHM (see Figure 11).
4. Secure cable leads to back of OHM with duct tape to prevent harness pinching.
Install the OHM using the machine screws and lock washers removed in step 2, (Torque 20 - 22 in-lb. or 2.3 - 2.5 Nm).
CAUTION:
DO NOT use power tools here. Only hand-tighten the machine screws. This will prevent stripping the screw threads.
CAUTION:
Be sure OHM connector cables and body gasket are positioned correctly to avoid pinching.
5. Reinstall the OHM dome light lenses (see Figure 12).
Over Head Monitor (OHM) to Interface Box Harness and Radio to Interface Box Harness Check Procedure.
Refer to the appropriate section of the Service Manual or this bulletin to access the harness end locations.
Check the Interface Box-to-Radio harness as needed (see Figure 13).
Check the Interface Box-to-Over Head Monitor harness as needed (see Figure 14).
