Service Procedure
1. Tilt front edge of the seat bottom all the way up.2. Check the voltage to the seat slide motor. Measure voltage between terminal 1 ("BR" wire) and terminal 2 ("W/B" wire) in the seat slide motor connector # B518 (refer to "Automatic Drive Positioner" in the EL section of the appropriate Service Manual).
WARNING:
When checking the power seat circuit, do not confuse its connector with the side air bag module connector.
^ If voltage is about 12v when the seat slide switch is on, proceed to step 3.
^ If voltage is Ov when the seat slide switch is on, this bulletin does not apply. Check the ADP system using the procedure in the EL section of the appropriate Service Manual.
3. Record the radio station pre-sets for later reprogramming after the procedure.
4. Tap the motor located under the front edge of the seat. Sometimes this will get the motor working again temporarily.
5. Move the seat bottom all the way forward and remove the two M10 (14 mm head) rear seat mounting bolts.
6. Move the seat all the way to the back position and remove the two M10 (14 mm head) front seat mounting bolts.
7. Turn the ignition key "OFF".
8. Disconnect the battery and wait three (3) minutes. This will allow the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which includes the front seat side air bags, to deactivate.
9. Tilt the entire seat assembly back to access all the vehicle harness-to-seat connectors. Then, disconnect them from the seat.
10. Remove seat assembly from vehicle and place it on a clean dry surface (use a fender cover or large floormat). Place it with the seat back lying flat to expose the underside of the seat.
11. Unhook carpet flap from underside of seat bottom (see Figure 2).
12. Remove four M8 (12 mm head) bolts which will release the seat bottom cushion from the seat frame (see Figure 3). Then, remove the two M6 (10 mm head) bolts from seat track mounting tab on both sides (see Figure 3). Removing these bolts will release the seat slide rails from the worm gears.
13. Remove both screws and finisher from front edge of seat (see Figure 4).
14. Remove top screw only from RH & LH side finishers (see Figure 4).
15. Disconnect seat sub-harness connector to slide motor (see Figure 5). Remove M8 (12 mm head) bolt from both sides of seat frame, located to the sides of the front edge of seat (see Figure 5). Then, remove six nuts and two base plates on both sides, located at top of frame to release gear boxes (see Figure 5).
16. Slide both sides of rail back to rear position (towards the seat back) and remove worm gears, flexible wire, motor, and gear boxes all as one unit from the seat adjuster assy. (see Figure 6).
CAUTION:
Avoid bending the flexible wire. Bending the wire will create a noise when the seat is slid.
17. Remove flexible wire from gear boxes. To release flexible wire from the motor end, pull up on the tab using a flat blade screwdriver or equivalent (see Figure 7).
18. Make sure the new seat track mounting tab is touching the rear stopper, with the threaded shaft facing up. Measure distance between the gear case and the mounting tab (see Figure 8). Then, measure and adjust the other seat track mounting tab to the same distance (see Figure 8).
19. Replace all six rubber grommets (3 to each side) from kit (see Figure 9).
20. Put worm gears, gear boxes, flexible wire assy. back into seat frame.
CAUTION:
Avoid bending the flexible wire. Bending the wire will create a noise when the seat is slid.
21. Move both seat track sliders back into position on top of seat track mounting tabs. Install and hand tighten the M6 (10 mm head) bolts into both seat track mounting tabs.
22. Tighten the three nuts on both sides (with the base plates), located at top of frame to secure gear boxes (refer to Figure 5 if needed). Nut torque: 64-85 in-lb (7.17-9.69 Nm).
23. Re-install and tighten two M8 (12 mm head) bolts on both sides of seat frame (refer to Figure 5 if needed). Bolt torque: 13-17 ft-lb (17.5-23.7 Nm).
24. Check the gear case to mounting tab distance again to make sure they have not moved (see Figure 10). If N/G, adjust.
25. Tighten M6 (10 mm head) bolt into both seat track mounting tabs. Bolt torque: 65-84 in-lb (7.3-9.4 Nm).
26. Re-install screws to attach side finishers and front finisher (refer to Figure 4 if needed).
27. Re-install four M8 (12 mm head) bolts to tighten seat bottom cushion to seat frame (refer to Figure 3 if needed). Bolt torque: 13-17 ft-lb (17.5-23.7 Nm).
28. Re-connect slide motor connector.
29. Re-hook strap to attach carpet flap onto the bottom of the seat (refer to Figure 2 if needed).
30. Place the seat assy. back into the vehicle and re-connect all electrical connectors.
31. Connect battery.
32. Re-install four seat mounting bolts. Bolt torque: 27-36 ft-lb (37-49 Nm).
33. Operate seat switches to ensure normal operation has returned.
34. For ADP entry/exit feature to return to normal operation: drive over 6 mph or key off, cycle the door open/close more than once.
35. Re-program the radio presets.
NOTE:
This is the ONLY approved repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Infiniti division for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.
