IF YOU CONFIRM

An applied vehicle has a squeak, rubbing, or "wheezing" noise coming from the steering column when turning the steering wheel.

NOTE:
This incident may sound like its coming from the spiral cable. However, it is most likely caused by the rubber coupling collar in the steering column assembly.

ACTION

Replace the steering column assembly with the one specified in the Parts Information section of this bulletin. Refer to the "ST" section of the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for the steering column removal and installation instructions.

IMPORTANT:
^ Carefully follow all ESM procedures, notes, and cautions when removing and installing the Steering Column assembly.

^ When installing the Steering Column Assembly onto the Steering Shaft (see Figure 1a), move (tilt) the column assembly up and down firmly (several times) to help fully engage the end of the Steering Column onto the Steering Shaft.

^ When tightening Bolt "A" (see Figure 1a), make sure the steering column is tilted and locked between the "Neutral" (middle) and "Bottom (Lower)" position (see Figure lb below).
