2003 FX45/FX35; NEW VEHICLE INFORMATION SERVICE HINTS

APPLIED VEHICLES:
2003 FX45/FX35 (S50)

SERVICE INFORMATION

With the introduction of the 2003 FX45/FX35:

^ There are some PDI and service items that are new and/or unique to this vehicle.

^ This bulletin will provide information on the items listed.

PDI ITEMS

Premium fuel:

^ The FX45/FX35 requires premium fuel to achieve optimum engine and transmission performance. This is especially important on the initial fuel fill-up at your dealership.

^ This will help ensure that your customer enjoys the full performance of the FX45/FX35 right from the start.

Aluminum Pedals (if so equipped):

^ The aluminum pedals are coated with a clear plastic film (CPF) for protection during shipping.

^ Make sure this "CPF" is removed (cleaned) from the pedals before the vehicle is delivered to the customer.

Front Tow Hook Cover:

^ During PDI, make sure the front tow hook cover (black plastic "Triangular-shaped" finisher-Figure 1) is removed from the glove box,

^ and installed in the lower front grill, just below the bumper and slightly to the left of the vehicle center (see Figure 2).

Taillights:

During PDI, if:

^ The turn signals flash too quickly,

^ Rear turn signals are inoperative,

^ Taillights and reverse lights are inoperative;

a. Remove the driver side (left side) access panel in the rear cargo area (see Figure 3).

b. Check the taillight wiring harness connection; confirm it is completely "snapped" together (see Figure 3).

Tire Pressure Monitoring System-TPMS (if equipped)

^ Vehicles with TPMS can be identified by the "Low Tire Pressure Warning Light" on the instrument panel to the right of the speedometer.

^ The TPMS is "Initialized" (activated) at the vehicle processing center before delivery to your dealership.

^ During PDI, the TPMS must be checked while test driving the vehicle:

a. This is to make sure the tire pressures are "displaying" properly.

b. The vehicle must be moving over 20 mph to activate the TPMS.

c. Tire pressure display may show [** psi] when the vehicle is not moving.

^ If the "Low Tire Pressure Warning Light" is flashing during PDI, refer to section WT in the Service Manual (ESM) for complete information on operation and servicing of this system.

Tire pressure specification, front and rear; [32 psi "cold"]

Tires are considered cold if:

^ the vehicle has been parked for 3 or more hours, or

^ the vehicle has been driven less than 1 mile after being parked for at least 3 hours.

Do not use the tire pressure reading on the center display screen to set the tire pressure.

Compass on Rear View Mirror

^ During the PDI, the compass must be calibrated with the correct "zone number" for your area.

^ Refer to the Service Manual (ESM), section DI, for zone numbers and calibration procedure.

NOTE:
The compass may display a "heading" (N, S, SW, etc.); however, it will not be accurate if the correct zone number for your area has not been used for calibration.

SERVICE ITEMS

Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) System

a. The ICC system can be set to operate in "vehicle to vehicle distance-control" cruise or conventional "fixed speed" cruise control.

^ For distance control cruise, push the ON/OFF switch for less the 1.5 seconds.

^ For fixed speed cruise, push the ON/OFF switch and hold it for longer then 1.5 seconds.

^ To switch between the cruise modes, turn the system OFF with the ON/OFF switch, then turn it back ON as instructed above.

b. The ICC, when set to vehicle to vehicle distance control cruise, will not operate under the following conditions:

^ Windshield wipers are operated on low speed (LO), high speed (HI), or with intermittent operation set to the shortest "interval time" (fastest wipe setting).

^ Sensor lens is dirty.

^ A/T shift lever is not in the D (drive) position, including the manual shift mode.

^ Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) System is turned "OFF".

^ Sunlight shines directly on the sensor. This could occur with sunrise or sunset conditions.

c. Refer to the ACS section in the Service Manual (ESM) for complete information on the ICC system.

Intelligent Key System (if equipped)

This system allows the vehicle to be locked, unlocked, and the engine to be started while the Intelligent Key is conveniently carried in a pocket or purse.

a. When using the Intelligent Key to lock or unlock the vehicle with a "Door Request Switch" (button on outside door handle) on the left or right side front door:

^ Make sure the Intelligent Key is within 3 feet of a side rear view mirror. Reason: An exterior Intelligent Key antenna is located inside each side rear view mirror. This antenna is designed to not operate at distances over 3 feet.

b. Additional information on the Intelligent Key system can be found in the Quick Reference Guide, Owner's Manual, and Service Manual (ESM).

c. For information on adding and/or registering keys, see ITB03-010 2003 FX45 / FX35; INTELLIGENT KEY, NATS KEY, AND STEERING LOCK UNIT REGISTRATION
