Service Procedure





Refer to the Repair Flow Chart above to properly repair the vehicle.

Rear Hatch Replacement Procedure

Preliminary Steps

IMPORTANT:
^ Use suitable covers to protect upholstery carpet etc. when performing this service procedure.

1. Write down all radio station pre-sets.

2. Make sure the ignition switch is turned OFF.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





4. Open the Rear Hatch and place suitable Protective Covers over the back seat and on the cargo area floor and bumper (see Figure 1).

Reposition Upper Rear Trim Panel





5. Re-position (downward) the Molding along the upper Rear Hatch opening (see Figure 2).





6. Remove both Rear Hatch Hinge Covers (see Figure 3).





7. Release the Plastic Lock Tab at each end of the Upper Rear Trim Panel by carefully pulling rearward and then downward (see Figure 4).





8. Carefully pull down on the Upper Rear Trim Panel to release all securing clips (see Figure 5). Then pull rearward to release the forward slide clips.

^ Use a suitable pry tool to carefully release the securing clips (if needed).





9. Disconnect the Rear Roof Light Harness Connector (see Figure 6).





10. Carefully lower the Upper Rear Trim Panel and rest it up against the back seat (see Figure 7).

Reposition Rear Hatch Wire Harnesses/Washer Fluid Tube





11. Disconnect the two Rear Hatch Wire Harness Connectors (see Figure 8).





12. Release the Harness Securing Tabs by prying down with a suitable pry tool (see Figure 9).





13. Push the Harness up through the body roof hole (see Figure 10).





14. Remove the Harness Grommet from the Rear Hatch by pulling down (see Figure 11).





15. Disconnect the Antenna Wire and Washer Fluid Hose (see Figure 12).

^ You'll need to remove the screw that holds the Antenna Wire (see Figure 12).





16. Push the Antenna Wire and Washer Fluid Hose up through the body roof hole (see Figure 13).





17. Remove the Antenna Wire/Washer Fluid Hose Grommet from the Rear Hatch by pulling down (see Figure 14).





18. Remove the Rear Hatch Interior Finisher as follows: (See Figure 15.)

A. Use a plastic pry tool to carefully remove:

^ Two Pull Handles.

^ One Clip above each Pull Handle.

^ Two Plastic Retainer Clips.





B. Use a plastic pry tool to carefully pry down on the rear edge of the Interior Finisher to release the securing Clips (see Detail A of Figure 16).

C. Gently pull down on the Finisher to release the remaining Clips.

D. Remove the Finisher from the vehicle and place it in a clean safe location as you will be re-installing it onto the new Rear Hatch later.








19. Remove the following components from the old Rear Hatch (see Figure 17).





20. Remove the four Hinge Nuts (see Figure 19) and remove the Rear Hatch from the vehicle.





[NEW] NOTE

The original supply of rear hatches for this campaign (part numbers listed in the Parts Information) are painted the correct color to match the vehicle include a new rear window and are shipped with a new emblem. The original supply is getting low. If one of the part numbers listed in the Parts Information is depleted it will be superseded to a rear hatch that is unpainted does not have a rear window and is not shipped with an emblem.

Re-Assembly

21. Install the new Rear Hatch onto the vehicle.

22. Install all the parts you removed from the old Rear Hatch onto the new Rear Hatch in the reverse order they were removed. Check the following:

^ The Rear Hatch Wire Harnesses are correctly routed/connected and are NOT rubbed, chaffed, or pinched by surrounding components.

^ The Rear Hatch Antenna Wire and Washer Fluid Hose are correctly routed and connected and are NOT rubbed, chaffed, or pinched by surrounding components.

^ The wire harness rubber Grommets are fully seated into the vehicle body and Rear Hatch.

^ All other wire harness connections are properly routed and re-connected.

23. Re-connect the negative battery cable.

24. Re-program all radio station presets.

25. Re-set the clock.

Emblem Installation

26. Install the new Emblem on the new Rear Hatch as follows:





A. Remove the self-adhesive backing from the Emblem (see Figure 20a).

B. Position the Emblem Template as shown in Figure 20b. Then press the Emblem onto the Rear Hatch.

Quality Control Procedure





27. Make sure the fit between the Upper Rear Trim Panel and Head-liner is correct (see Figure 21).

28. Confirm the body gap between the Rear Hatch and vehicle is correct.

29. Confirm the following items properly operate:

^ High mount (3rd) brake light

^ Regular brake lights

^ Parking lights

^ Turn signals

^ Backup lights

^ License plate light

^ Interior lights

^ Rear window washer and wiper

^ Rear Hatch Auto-closing function

^ Rear Hatch opening button

^ Rear View Monitor Function (if equipped)

30. Inspect for any related paint damage.
