Brakes - Rear Brake Squeal/Squeak When Cold

APPLIED VEHICLES:
2003-2004 FX45 - AWD
2003-2004 FX35 - 2WD and AWD

IF YOU CONFIRM:

During braking an Applied Vehicle has a loud "squeak" "squeal" or "groan" noise coming from the rear brakes:

^ when the brakes are cold (first couple of brake applications)

^ for example when backing out of a driveway in the morning

ACTIONS:

Replace the rear brake pads with the ones from the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.





PARTS INFORMATION

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of ACTIONS (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

CLAIMS INFORMATION





Submit Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding shown.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify the incident by a test drive. Drive the vehicle as described in the IF YOU CONFIRM section in this bulletin.

2. Replace the rear brake pads with the ones from the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.

^ Follow all CAUTIONS in the ESM procedure when removing and replacing brake pads.

^ Use environmentally appropriate Nissan Brake Cleaner (consult local environmental regulations to decide which brake cleaner to use) to remove the old PBC (Poly Butyl Cuprysil) grease and/or brake dust from the torque member.

^ Be sure to apply PBC grease (Nissan P/N 99990-00939P) to the back of the pads and both sides of the shims.

CAUTION:
DO NOT GET ANY PBC GREASE ON THE BRAKE PAD FRICTION SURFACES.
