Service Procedure B
SERVICE PROCEDURE B: NATS C/U Initialization and Key RegistrationBefore starting this procedure, note the following:
^ When additional NATS mechanical keys (emergency and/or valet keys) are to be registered all existing NATS keys must also be registered at the same time. ANY KEYS THAT ARE NOT REGISTERED AT THIS TIME WILL NOT START THE VEHICLE.
^ All Intelligent Keys must be outside the vehicle during NATS Key Registration.
^ For CONSULT-II: Use the NATS (purple) Program Card version AEN02C or later.
^ Always check the function of all NATS keys after registration.
^ It is highly recommended that you read through this entire service procedure before doing it for the first time.
1. Insert the NATS (purple) Program Card into slot A of the CONSULT-II. See Figure 3.
2. Connect CONSULT-II and CONSULT-II CAN converter and cable set to the vehicle's data link connector.
3. Insert a registered emergency (mechanical) key into the ignition and turn the Ignition ON. Do Not start the engine.
NOTE:
The emergency key used in step 3 above must be a NATS registered key either from an Intelligent Key or the valet key. If all of the registered keys (emergency and valet) have been lost go to Service Procedure D first.
4. Wait for the CONSULT-II system software to load then select the following:
[START] > [OTHER] > [OK] > [NATS BCM] Or [S/EN] > [PIN READ]
(CONSULT-II will display and print the BCM-Specific 5-digit code. You'll use ASIST to decode.)
5. "Decode" the BCM-Specific 5-digit code using ASIST.
a. From the ASIST Main Menu screen click on "Information Tool Box".
b. From the Information Tool Box screen click on the "NATS Decoder button" (see Figure 4).
c. Follow the steps in Figure 5.
6. Select [BACK] on CONSULT-II to return to the SELECT SYSTEM screen.
7. Select [NATS V 5.0].
8. Select [C/U INITIALIZATION] this will get you into the C/U INITIALIZATION mode.
9. Enter the 4-digit PIN Code Number obtained from ASIST.
10. Select START to perform C/U INITIALIZATION mode.
11. When "INITIALIZATION COMPLETED" is displayed:
a. Turn the ignition to "OFF/LOCK" position and remove the key.
b. Wait at least 5 seconds.
NOTE:
This key (the one just removed from the ignition) is not registered. It will need to be registered just as the other keys in step 12.
12. Perform ID registration of all NATS Keys:
a. Insert a mechanical key and turn the ignition ON.
b. Wait at least 5 seconds. (The Security Indicator Lamp will flash 5 times then stop flashing.) See Figure 6.
c. Turn the key to "OFF/LOCK" and remove it.
^ The key is now registered.
^ Keep it separate from the other keys.
IMPORTANT:
Keep the first REGISTERED key separate from ALL the other keys for right now. DO NOT MIX UP KEYS!
NOTE:
^ The first registered key will be used later in step e. Keep it separate from all other keys.
^ Keep the "registered" keys and the "unregistered" keys in different piles during this process.
^ Accidentally inserting an already registered key into the ignition at this point will drop the system out of the registration mode.
^ If this happens you will have to go back to step 6 (prior Damage) and restart from there.
d. Repeat steps a b and c for the remaining keys.
NOTE:
A maximum of 5 NATS keys (emergency plus valet) can be registered into the system.
e. After registering and removing the final key:
^ Re-insert the first key registered and
^ turn the ignition ON for 5 seconds (the Security Indicator Lamp will flash 5 times).
^ This will take the system out of key registration mode.
f. Turn the ignition OFF and wait for the Security Indicator Lamp to start blinking (approximately 5 seconds).
^ This will indicate the completion of the NATS Key ID Registration and C/U Initialization.
13. Select [END] on CONSULT-II screen.
14. Confirm NATS Key registration:
^ Confirm that ALL the keys will successfully start the engine.
^ Wait for the system to reset between each key check.
Watch for the Security Indicator Lamp to begin blinking between each key confirmation indicating the system has reset.
^ You must wait for the system to reset between key checks or key operation will not be confirmed.
15. Select [BACK] to return to the SELECT SYSTEM screen on CONSULT-II.
16. Turn the ignition ON. Select [NATS V 5.0] then [SELF-DIAG RESULTS].
17. ERASE any DTCs present.
NOTE:
In rare cases CHAIN OF ECM-IMMU is stored during the key registration process. This must be erased.
18. Select [BACK] to return to the SELECT SYSTEM screen.
19. Turn the ignition OFF. Return all emergency (mechanical) keys to their Intelligent Key storage locations (slots).
NOTE:
The registered NATS emergency keys are not matched to particular Intelligent Keys.
20. Turn the CONSULT-II unit OFF and disconnect it from the vehicle.
