Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Step 7

Step 7: Install the New Front Brake Pad Kit.

^ Kit Includes New Brake Pads "Coated" Pad Retainers and Metal Backing Shims.

A. If the torque members you took off the vehicle are the new version (see Step 5) re-install them on the vehicle.

^ IMPORTANT: Make sure to use new torque member anchor bolts. Do not reuse the old ones.

^ New bolts are listed in the Parts Information.

^ Tighten torque member bolts to 210 Nm (21 kg-m 155 ft-lb).

B. Install the new brake pad retainers (see Figure 5).

^ Brake pad retainers are included with the brake pad kit.

^ Apply a thin layer of Molykote(R) M77 grease-P/N 44003-7S000-to the pad retainers.

CAUTION:
Don't get grease on the brake rotor friction surface.

C. Prep the inboard brake pads for installation.

Apply a moderate amount of Molykote(R) M77 grease-P/N 44003-7S000-to the back of each pad as shown in Figure 6.

NOTE:

^ The inboard pads have a straight edge and pad wear sensor. The inboard backing shims have cut-outs on the edges.

^ Install the shim and push down on it to squeeze out any excess grease.

^ Clean off all of the excess grease that squeezes out (see Figure 7).

CAUTION:
Don't get any grease on the brake pad or brake rotor friction surface.

D. Prep the outboard brake pads for installation.

^ Apply a moderate amount of Molykote(R) M77 grease-P/N 44003-7S000-to the back of each pad as shown in Figure 8.

NOTE:

^ The outboard pads have a curved edge.

^ The outboard backing shims do not have cut-outs on the edges.

^ Install the shim and push down on it to squeeze out any excess grease.

^ Clean off all of the excess grease that squeezes out (see Figure 9).

CAUTION:
Don't get any grease on the brake pad or brake rotor friction surface.

E. Install the new brake pads with metal backing shims.

NOTE:
Make sure the inboard pads are installed with the wear sensors facing down (towards the ground). See Figure 10.

F. Reinstall the cylinder body.

NOTE:
If the vehicle you are working on requires new torque members (see Step 5) make sure to use the new sliding pin bolts included in the Torque Member Kit.

^ First tighten the Lower sliding pin bolt - farthest from the bleed valve. Then tighten the Upper sliding pin bolt.

Torque Spec: 40 - 44 N-m (4.0 - 4.5 kg-m 30 - 32 ft-lb)
