STEERING RACK GROAN NOISE WHEN TURNING RIGHT

IF YOU CONFIRM:

A groan or similar noise at low vehicle speeds when centering the vehicle steering after a right turn.

^ The noise is more likely to occur when the vehicle is cold.

^ A slight vibration may be felt in the steering wheel.

NOTE:
This incident (if confirmed) does not affect the ability to steer the vehicle. It's only manifestation is unusual noise or slight vibration.

ACTION:

Replace the steering gear (rack) assembly with the one specified in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.

^ For rack assembly replacement procedure, refer to AWD, AWD: Removal and Installation in the STEERING, ST, Steering System section of the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM).

^ For steering system bleeding procedure and fluid level inspection, refer to ON-VEHICLE MAINTENANCE, AIR BLEEDING HYDRAULIC SYSTEM and Inspection, FLUID LEVEL in the STEERING, ST, Steering System section of the applicable ESM.

CAUTION:
Power steering pump noise can occur if the bleeding procedure is not properly performed, or if the system is not filled to the proper level.
