Replace Sub-ConnectorsMale Sub-Connector
1. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
2. Remove the battery hold down and then remove the battery from the vehicle.
3. Remove the male end of connector F1 (connector) from its mount.
a. Release the lock tap.
b. Slide the connector to the side (toward the engine).
4. Disconnect the harness mount.
5. Remove the harness covering 3 to 4 inches back from the connector.
6. Remove the male sub-connector as follows:
a. Insert the release tools (J-50778) as show in Figure 25.
^ Make sure the wedge of the tools are facing away from the sub-connector (facing outboard) as shown in Figure 25.
b. Hold the release tools in place and pull out the sub-connector.
7. Cut the male sub-connector from the harness.
^ Cut the harness close to the connector.
8. Get the new male sub-connector from the repair kit.
NOTE:
The wires on the sub-connector are cut to three different lengths.
9. Attach the new sub-connector to the harness as follows (see Figure 29):
a. Start with one of the shortest wires on the sub-connector.
b. Match the wire color exactly to the harness wire.
c. Use a solder sleeve connector to attach the wires.

^ Refer to "Quick Reference for Using Solder Sleeve Connectors" as a quick reference for using these tools.
d. Repeat a, b and c above for all the wires.
^ Attach them in the order of shortest to longest from the sub-connector.
^ Cut the wire length on the harness side as needed.
^ Make sure all of the wire colors match exactly.
