Replace Defroster Door Motor

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE:

Use protective covers as needed for interior surfaces while performing this procedure.

Replace Defroster Door Motor





1. Write down the radio station presets.

2. Move both front seats to the rear most position.








3. If equipped; move the adjustable pedals to the front most (lowest) position.

4. Remove the center console lower cover LH.

^ It snaps loose. Use a plastic trim tool as needed.

^ Place it in a clean safe area.

5. Turn the ignition OFF.





6. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

7. Remove the instrument lower panel LH as follows:





a. Remove the screws shown in Figure 3.

b. Snap the panel loose. Use a plastic trim tool as needed.





c. Disconnect the electrical connectors on the left and right side of the lower panel.

^ The number of connectors will vary depending on the model and options.

d. Once the connectors are disconnected place the panel in a clean safe area.





8. Remove the lower knee protector.

^ It is held on with 4 bolts.





9. Remove the Body Control Module (BCM).

^ It is held on with 3 bolts.

^ One bolt in upper left.

^ Two bolts in lower right.





^ The 2 lower bolts on the right side can be accessed with a 1/4 drive 10 mm swivel socket and extension.

10. Once the bolts are removed disconnect the electrical connectors.

11. Remove the accelerator pedal as follows:





a. Disconnect the adjustable brake pedal cable (see Figure 8).

^ Squeeze the cable end and pull to snap it loose.





b. Remove the 3 accelerator pedal mounting bolts.





c. Lower the pedal and disconnect the electrical connectors.





12. Remove the audio amplifier as follows.

a. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

b. Remove the 3 mounting bolts.





c. Slide the amplifier down and rearward to remove.

13. Remove the defroster door motor as follows:





NOTE:
Figure 13 shows the location of the defroster motor.





a. Disconnect the electrical connector.

b. Remove the 3 mounting screws.

^ Two screws have a 7 mm hex head and a T20 Torx(R) center on the head.

^ One screw has a 5.5 mm hex head.





14. When the defroster door motor is removed the door arm guide will be in approximately the position shown in Figure 15.

^ Make sure the front arm post is in place.

^ Make sure the rear arm post is in place.

^ Notice the position of the flat area on the center gear.

NOTE:
^ If front arm post is out of place you can access the arm from the front with your fingers and push it back in place.

^ If the rear arm post is out of place you will need to reach in the opening or access the arm from below (not shown).








^ See Figures 18, 19, and 20 above for a visual reference of the door arm guide and door arms.

^ Figures 18, 19 and 20 are supplied as a visual reference only. Photos were taken with HVAC assembly removed from the vehicle.





15. Rotate the door arm guide as follows (see Figure 16):

a. Push in on the door arm guide to hold it on its pivot point.

b. While pushing in rotate clockwise a small amount so the flat area on the center gear is approximately horizontal.

^ While rotating the door arm guide make sure the arm posts stay in place.

NOTE:
After rotation, you will not be able to see the rear arm post. It's position will move below the opening.





16. Carefully install the new defroster door motor.

^ Make sure the door arm posts stay in place.

^ If needed, twist the motor a small amount to position the aligning pin.

^ Install the three mounting screws.

^ Connect the electrical connector.

17. Reinstall all other removed parts in reverse order.

^ Torque for accelerator pedal bolts is 12.7 Nm (1.3 kg-m 9 ft.lb).

^ Torque for lower knee protector bolts is 5.9 Nm (0.60 kg-m 52 in.lb).

^ Make sure all electrical connectors are securely snapped together.

18. Go to Replace Air Mix Door Motor.
