Service Procedure
NOTES:^ The new roof side molding(s) will need to be painted. Have them painted and ready to install before starting this service procedure.
^ After the part(s) have been painted, make sure the rear finisher moves fore/aft freely (see step 4 and Figure 8).
Remove Roof Side Molding Assembly
1. If equipped, carefully remove both cross bars (they mount transversely on the roof).
CAUTION:
Use a fender cover or suitable covering to protect painted surfaces while removing the cross bars.
^ TORX bolts size: T30
2. Remove the incident roof side moulding assembly (molding) by pulling up on the loose end until all clips are unsnapped.
^ Discard the old part, it will be replaced with a new one listed in PARTS INFORMATION.
3. Cut in half and remove any clips stuck to the plastic rivets with a suitable tool.
CAUTION:
Protect painted areas with a clean shop rag or suitable covering.
^ Cut the clip on both sides (see Figure 4 and 5).
CAUTION:
Do not pull off the clip from the plastic rivet. Cut the clip in two (2) pieces, and then remove from the plastic rivet.
Install Roof Side Molding Assembly
NOTE:
Before starting, make sure the rear finisher slides fore/aft freely (see Figure 8).
1. Using your fingers, rotate all plastic rivets 90°.
^ If not able to turn with your fingers, carefully use "needle nose" pliers or equivalent tool.
^ Rotating the plastic rivets will allow the new molding to "grab on" to a different contact spot.
CAUTION:
The rivets are made of soft plastic. Do not use excessive force.
^ It is recommended to draw markings on the body and plastic rivets 90° apart to ensure the plastic rivets are rotated the correct amount.
2. Tuck the front end of the new molding (previously painted by the dealer) under the windshield seal.
3. Snap in place the clip closest to the windshield first (see Figure 7).
4. Snap in place the hook and rearmost clip into the back door (rear hatch) hinge.
^ First secure the hook, and then snap the clip in place.
> The rear finisher can slide fore/aft, assisting in hook and clip installation.
> Make sure the rear finisher slides freely (for easier hook and clip-to-holes alignment).
5. Snap in place the remaining clips.
6. If equipped, install the cross bars.
^ Apply a fresh coat of Loctite 242 or equivalent to the bolts threads, and then install the bolts.
