Removal
Cylinder Head Assembly:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds. (Refer to ENGINE MECHANICAL; INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACE, EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACE).
4. Remove rocker cover and rubber plug.
Chain/Sprocket:
5. Turn engine to TDC and remove camshaft sprocket bolt.
NOTE: Leave the camshaft sprocket with the timing chain in position between the chain guide and the chain tensioner. Tie the chain to the sprocket with mechanics wire to hold in place.
6. Release tension on the automatic adjuster.
Lock Lever:
a. Use screwdriver to press lock lever (1) rearward.
Lock Lever Release:
b. Push in the adjuster shoe (1) and lock in position by releasing lock lever (2).
Rocker Shaft Nuts:
7. Loosen rocker shaft bracket nuts in sequence, starting with outer nuts and working inward. Remove nuts and then rocker arm assembly.
8. Remove camshaft.
Cylinder Head Bolts:
9. Remove two top timing cover bolts from the front of the cylinder head.
10. Loosen cylinder head bolts in sequence, starting with outer bolts and working inward.
11. Remove cylinder head bolts and lift cylinder head clear of timing chain and sprocket.
