This Service Bulletin applies to Isuzu vehicles equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission as shown by the following list:

Model Before VIN

Impulse (JR) E0904577
P'UP (KB) F0727327
Trooper II (KT) F5411180

SERVICE INFORMATION

Transmissions installed after the referenced VINs have a fully sealed top gear shaft bearing (part No. 8- 94167-637-0). This sealed bearing can be used as a replacement part in earlier transmissions which originally used a non-sealed bearing (part No. 8-94246- 488-0). Follow the instructions in this Service Bulletin
when retro-fitting a sealed bearing into an earlier model transmission.

Do not attempt to install a non-sealed bearing into a transmission which was originally equipped with a sealed bearing.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Assemble the transmission as described in the appropriate workshop manual. During assembly, perform the additional steps listed below.

CAUTION Use only NLGI No. 1 or No. 2 grease in these procedures. Do not use an EP grease.

Figure 1 - TOP GEAR SHAFT BEARING:

1. After installing the top gear shaft bearing onto the top gear shaft, apply grease to the full circumference of the shaft in the area indicated in Figure 1.

Figure 2 - Main Case:

2. Before installing the front cover onto the main case, fill the area between the oil seal's main lip and its dust lip with grease (Figure 2).

3. Before installing the front cover onto the main case, wrap the splined portion of the top gear shaft
with vinyl tape or equivalent. This will prevent the oil seal lips from being damaged. After the cover is installed, remove the tape and clean any adhesive residue off the shaft.
