BULLETIN NUMBER SB90-03-002
ISSUE DATE January 18, 1990
GROUP EMISSIONS
CHECK VALVE INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT (C223-T ENGINE)
AFFECTED VEHICLES

1986-87 Trooper II (KT) and Pickup (TF) models with C223 turbocharged engine.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Check valve operation should be inspected during each vehicle maintenance interval. A malfunctioning check valve may result in excessive exhaust smoke. On Trooper models with an oil retention tank (installed as outlined in Service Bulletin SB88-01-003), oil accumulation in the oil retention tank may occur.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Normal operation of the check valve (Figure 1) allows flow in only one direction. If the check valve becomes plugged or allows flow in both directions, oil mist may pass through the PCV valve to the air intake valve, eventually filling the oil retention tank with oil.
During each vehicle maintenance interval, inspect the check valve as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Replace the check valve if required.
