SERVICE INFORMATION

During operation in extremely wet weather, moisture may enter the rear (tailgate) door hinges, resulting in stiff hinge operation.

If the hinges have completely seized, they should be replaced. If the hinges are just slightly binding or sticking, they can be cleaned and lubricated by following the procedure outlined in this Service Bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

Hinge Replacement:

Replace and adjust the hinges as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

Hinge Lubrication.

1. Open the rear doors completely.

2. Using a #31 drill bit (0.120 in.) and a drill stop, drill a hole 4.5 mm deep near the weld area on the hinge. Hole placement is shown in Figure 1.

3. Spray an aerosol penetrating solvent into the hole while moving the door through its range of travel. Continue applying the solvent until the hinge operation is smooth.

4. Use an aerosol lubricant or a needle adapter and grease gun to inject chassis lubricant into the hole.

5. Install the plug (Part No. 2-90058-700-0) into the drilled hole.
