SERVICE INFORMATION

During operation in extremely hot ambient temperatures, the vehicle temperature gauge needle may read above the midpoint of the gauge while the engine itself is operating within normal temperature parameters. Coolant may also spill from the radiator surge tank.

Installing a temperature sending unit resistor as described in this Service Bulletin will modify the temperature gauge needle operation. A new radiator
surge tank may also be installed to prevent coolant loss during operation in extremely hot ambient temperatures.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Install temperature sending unit resistor as follows:

a. Remove yellow wire with black tracer from the temperature sending unit.

b. Cut this wire approximately 2 inches (50 mm) from connector.

c. Solder resistor to wire (Figure 1).
