GROUP BRAKES
1988-89 TROOPER II (KT), PICKUP (TF) AND AMIGO (TC) REAR BRAKES GROANING
(This Service Bulletin supercedes SB89-09-002, to correct lower guide pin torque specification.)
VEHICLES AFFECTED
1988-89 Trooper II (KT), Pickup (TF) and Amigo (TC) models with 4ZEI engine (rear disc brakes).
SERVICE INFORMATION
A groaning noise may be heard from the rear brakes when the brake pedal is slightly depressed while traveling in reverse at slow speeds. Installing new, improved rear disc brake pad kits will eliminate the noise.
In order to perform correctly, these new brake pad kits must be installed as described in this Service Bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Using a new rear disc brake pad kit (part No. 8- 97018-357-0), replace the rear disc brake pads on both sides of the vehicle.
IMPORTANT These new brake pads must be positioned correctly during installation, as follows. See Figure 1 and Figure 2.
1. Apply grease (provided in kit) to both sides of rubber-coated shims, to within approximately 1/8 inch of edges. See Figure 2.
2. Install rubber-coated shims and stainless steel shims as shown in Figure 1.
The wear indicators of the outer pads must be on the top. The wear indicators of the inner pads must be on the bottom.
NOTE When reinstalling lower guide pin, torque to 14.5 ft.lbs.
