SERVICE INFORMATION

Insufficient adhesive at the soft top gasket may allow a small amount of water to leak into the passenger compartment, in a rainstorm or carwash.

Figure 1:

This Service Bulletin contains the procedure for eliminating soft top leakage at the front area (Figure 1) by applying weatherstrip adhesive between the gasket and the vehicle body.

Figure 2:

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Refer to Figure 2.

1. Remove the front of the soft top from the cab.

2. Prepare the area between the gasket and the body as follows:

a. Ensure that the area is completely dry. Remove 7 body side studs from the top of the cab, and remove the gasket plate. Use paper towels to remove any excess water.
b. At the top and sides of the cab, clean all dirt from the area between the gasket and body, using a cloth dampened with 3M 08984 Cleaner or equivalent.

c. To protect body paint from the adhesive, apply masking tape along the edges of the body, at the top and sides of the cab.

3. Apply a bead of 3M 08008 Adhesive between the gasket and the body.

IMPORTANT Do not leave any gaps in the adhesive bead, as gaps will prevent a proper seal.

4. Apply slight pressure to the gasket, forcing the adhesive to spread, but not out from under the gasket.
5. Clean off any visible sealant residue, using a cloth dampened with 3M 08984 Cleaner or equivalent.

6. Reinstall the gasket plate and 7 body side studs.

7. Carefully remove the masking tape.

8. Allow the adhesive to dry according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions before reinstalling the soft top.

9. Reinstall the front of the soft top to the cab as follows:

a. Securely install the soft top rubber welting into the gasket groove.

b. Install the snaps onto the body side studs.
